[INSTRUMENTAL]
Well this bit is actually an instrumental that we've been using to open up shows and obviously this album but since I'm sure someone is bound to read this and ask, I'll tell a few stories about this track.
This song originates from a musical doodle I did for a project called Civic Playboy; a thing I did in between "SO HELP ME GOD" and "PINK HOUSE" when I thought The Pom Pom Girls would either go on hiatus or wouldn't be recording new stuff ever, that also doubled as my take on the sounds of the band SUICIDE (RIP Alan Vega.) There were lyrics I had written for the song that had two wildly different verses that also relate to the song title; one about a guy who travels up north to Maine to meet an ex girlfriend in a revenge-fueled killing spree that would've had lyrics that alluded to "red up in the great white north" or whatever, and another about racism being very much alive and well up in the northern parts of our country, but that their racism is a lot more "polite" or whatever, so it would've been a radical shift in direction for the verses, but of course the words have always had a hard time coming together for little Civic Playboy jams so I decided to start working it as an instrumental. It's a fun little song to jam to because when we played it the first few times, it was as a warmup song to let people know we were starting our set. The best memories actually come from the first two times we played it; first on October 12th in our friend, Marty's, basement where we riffed on that tune for what felt like forever, and the second time on October 26th when we started playing it immediately after Phantom Sleeze had finished their set at our album release party. People didn't realize we were all set and ready to play when that happened so to hear people scrambling up the stairs of Fahrenheit 451 when we started playing it was kinda funny. The shocking part was turning around and seeing how many people had come to see us that time.
So here it is now, in all its glory. Presented with full context. If y'all have more questions about this song, or any song off this album in particular then feel free to shoot us a message or something. We don't bite, I promise (unless that's what you're into.)
xoxo

I don’t wanna just be an actress
Sleeping on some executive mattress
I don’t wanna just be a model
When everyone is just mean and awful
Hey girl please don’t let me down again
I know this thing that we have is all pretend
But of yourself you’re just so full
You’re never thinking that I am impossible
I don’t wanna just be an actress
Wearing outfits you can’t resist
I don’t wanna just be a model
That lets daddy act all fucking hostile
I don’t wanna just be an actress
Pretending everything is fine
I don’t wanna just be a mistress
So maybe I’ll say goodbye

Going Under

Her love is a riptide
I'm caught in a landslide
Should've known years ago
Not to go with the flow
Yeah they say that opposites attract
so why the fuck can't she get off my back?
Having fun in the sun, or
crashing waves I'm going under
Her love is a riptide
I'm caught in a landslide
All this time in the world
Still hung up on this one girl
Yeah they say that opposites attract
so why the fuck can't she get off my back?
having fun in the sun, or
crashing waves I'm going under

The city of Poughkeepsie ain't been the same since you been gone
And the ghosts of you still haunt me all night long
And everytime I go into town it's all a haunted place
It reminds me of a different time when I fell in love with your face
This town is a haunted house
where the thoughts of you still hang around
Like how you used to hold my hand
but all the kids in town won't understand
This town is a haunted house
where everything still haunts me now
like how you used to hold my hand
but all the shops in the mall don't understand
The city of Red Hook ain't been the same since you been gone
And I'm still trying to figure out why you went and did me wrong
And every time I go and I pass by the diner, I guess it's fate
Because I still think about how we would go out there for dates
New York City ain't the same without you

Hey there, Astrofucker
what's it like in outer space?
It's been way too long since I
last saw your face
Hey there, Astrofucker
on the other side of the world
Why did I get so hung up on
just one girl
Well take me up upon a trip
aboard your magic rocket ship
or maybe I could to twenty-sixteen
in my brand new goddamn time machine
maybe we could make it work again
maybe we could make it work again, well
hey there, Astrofucker
come back to earth again
Hey there, Astrofucker
it's cold in outer space
I know we let what we had
go and lay to waste
Hey there, Astrofucker
I hope you know it's true
But things have been much better
When I'm without you

BALLAD OF THE SNAKE CHARMER
[instrumental]
SHE'S ALL DEVO
Her freedom of choice makes me wanna shout
Are we not men? I'm gonna turn her out
Everyone thinks she's a fucking whore
Well I'm fed up with this prophylactic tour 'cuz
she's got something for everybody
she's got something for everybody
she's got something for everybody
she's got something for everybody
I hear her calling everywhere I turn
oh but I know that I will never learn
and everyone thinks she's the girl I want
truth is I think she's just a fucking cunt 'cuz
Her freedom of choice makes me wanna shout
Are we not men? I'm gonna turn her out
and everyone thinks she's the girl I want
truth is I think she's just a fucking cunt 'cuz
THE SHADOWBOXER
Yeah, well I'm a shadowboxer
I could go for seven rounds
or I could just keep on fighting
until I'm dead in the ground
oh well I'm the shadowboxer
I'm always fighting my mind
and I'mma get my belt back
all in due time

Come Closer

She's a pretty little thing but she freaks me out all the time
She's a sharp as a tack and she's sweeter than apple pie
Oh pretty girl with the pretty eyes, won't she just give me a chance
Beautiful girl, give me a smile and then just take off your pants
Don't stop, come a little closer
Don't stop, come a little closer
Don't stop, come a little closer
And every single night I wish you could be mine
Don't need no Riley Reid to come and ride me
I don't need no Annabelle Redd to give me fucking head
Don't need no Ivy Lebelle to come and give me hell but
What good is all I could do if I can't be with you, so...

The Lottery

If I won the lottery I could spend the money on drugs
It'd be less of a waste of cash than trying to buy your love
Well if I won the lottery I could get out of this town
and then move to a different place where you ain't holding me down
Well I could do a lot with millions in hand
but I still don't know where the fuck I'd stand
because of all the stupid shit that you did and said
that made me wish that I was dead, so
if I won a million dollars
if I won a million dollars
if I won a million dollars
Maybe I could get you out of my damn head
If I won the lottery I think I could be just fine
And maybe I could come to terms with how you’ll never be mine
well if I won the lottery I could feel a bit less blue
about the life that I'd have to start when I'm still without you
